Loxone is a sophisticated system, but its success or failure depends entirely on the installer. The same Miniserver box can run for ten years without intervention in one company's hands, while in another's it may start generating errors after six months that no one can fix because the original programmer has left. This article is a practical guide for apartment and house owners in Prague looking for a Loxone installer who wants to avoid the most common mistakes: from marketing badges like "Platinum partner" to flat-rate offers without a project plan.
Loxone Partnership Levels: What Silver, Gold and Platinum Mean
Loxone Electronics GmbH operates a three-tier partner programme. When you check the official partner finder (loxone.com/czcs/najit-partnera), each company displays a coloured badge. In practice, it works as follows:
Silver Partner (basic level)
The company must have at least one trained technician who has completed basic Loxone certifications. This usually means the company has generated some turnover in Loxone products over the last 12 months and attended a two-day Config Basic training course. A Silver partner can handle a standard detached house with 50 lighting points and basic shading, but with more complex integrations, such as connecting to KNX peripherals, comprehensive sun-tracking shading scenes, or multi-room audio. They may quickly reach the limits of their expertise.
Gold Partner (advanced level)
The company has completed advanced courses (Config Advanced, Audio, Tree), typically employs two or more certified technicians and has demonstrated to Loxone a higher annual turnover. A Gold partner should be capable of handling more complex projects, larger detached houses, villas with swimming pools and utility rooms, integration of photovoltaics and heat pumps. There are around twenty of them in Prague.
Platinum Partner (highest level)
The highest level with the strictest requirements, more certified technicians, high annual turnover, proven references for complex projects. There are only a few Platinum partners in the whole of the Czech Republic. In theory, they should be able to handle practically anything, including commercial projects (hotels, office buildings, restaurants).
Note on information transparency: Loxone partnership levels are awarded and revoked by the manufacturer itself based on internal criteria that are not fully transparent. On top of that, these criteria evolve over time: a partner who achieved Platinum status in 2019 may not meet the current 2026 criteria, but retains their level until undergoing another inspection.
Why partnership level alone guarantees nothing
The Platinum badge looks good on the website, but in practice we have seen Silver partners delivering precise projects with careful documentation, and Gold partners leaving behind distribution boards with illegible labelling and unexplained programming logic. The partnership level indicates something about the company's turnover in Loxone products and completed training, but it says nothing about who will specifically programme your project, how carefully the schedule will be managed, or what documentation will be handed over to the customer.
A second practical issue: teams often consist of several technicians with very different skill levels. A Gold partner may have one senior technician capable of handling complex scenarios and three juniors who can only perform basic installations. If the company sends that junior to your installation, you effectively receive Silver-level service at a Gold price.
The third issue that certification does not address: Who will maintain the system in three years. If a partner company goes bankrupt or the programmer leaves, you may find yourself in a situation where no one understands what was uploaded to the Miniserver. A well-written project should be transferable to any other certified technician, but that is a matter of company culture, not partnership level.
A clearly labelled distribution board with an annotated project, this determines serviceability in five years.
7 questions you must ask your plumber before signing the contract
Here is the specific list of questions we recommend customers ask every installer who provides a quote. Compare the answers: the differences will quickly tell you who works professionally and who is improvising.
1. Who specifically will programme the project and hold Loxone certification?
Not "we have a certified team", but the name of the specific technician and when they last completed training. Loxone Config is changing; version 15 and higher introduced fundamental changes to block logic, and anyone who has not undergone update training continues working in the old way. Request that the name be included in the contract appendix.
2. Can I see three references from a project of similar size?
Not just a mention on the website, but contact details for the owner you can call. A serious installer will gladly provide references from two to three satisfied clients from the last year. If they refer you only to photos on Instagram without contacts, that is a bad sign. With a Platinum partner, you can expect at least dozens of installations per year, so providing three contacts is not a problem.
3. What is the realistic implementation timeframe and where are there reserves in the schedule?
For a new-build apartment of 70 m², a standard Loxone installation takes between 4 and 6 weeks from the start of work to handover of a functional system. A detached house of 150 m² typically requires 8 to 12 weeks. If anyone promises "finished in three weeks" for a more complex build, they are either only counting the cable laying (leaving programming for some "next phase") or lack capacity and are lying. Ask about critical schedule points, delivery of the Miniserver, delivery of Tree modules, and allowance for additional adjustments.
4. What exactly is included in the price and what will be charged separately?
The line between "included in the price" and "extra charge" often blurs in Loxone quotes. A good quote provides a detailed breakdown: Miniserver (model, price), number and type of Tree modules, number and type of Air modules, number of controllers (Touch, Nano), cabling by metres, labour by hours, programming as a lump sum or by hours, inspection, first year of service. If you see "Loxone system complete: 480 000 Kč" with no details, ask for the breakdown. Without it, you cannot compare quotes.
5. How does service work after handover and what is the cost?
A key question, because with Loxone, service is performed remotely in 90% of cases: the technician connects via Loxone Cloud, repairs or adds logic, and you may not even notice. Ask: what is the hourly rate for remote work, what is the response time for urgent outages (only half the apartment has power, no heating), is there a flat-rate service contract, and exactly what does the flat rate cover. Avoid situations where "service is charged at 2 500 Kč/hour, minimum 4 hours" with no flat-rate option: a minor issue could cost you 10 000 Kč.
6. Will I receive project documentation and an annotated Loxone Config?
This is the litmus test of professionalism. A competent installer will hand over: a distribution board schematic, a list of components used with serial numbers, an export of the Loxone Config project (.Loxone file), documentation for the logic including comments, and access credentials under your control. If someone tells you "we don't provide that, it's our know-how", this is an attempt at vendor lock-in and we have a problem with that. You paid for the software in your Miniserver, so it belongs to you.
7. What is the warranty on workmanship and what exactly does it cover?
Loxone hardware comes with a 24-month manufacturer's warranty. The question is what the installer does if a Tree module fails after 18 months, do they come out free of charge to replace it, or do they charge for the call-out and labour? The offer should clearly distinguish between the hardware warranty (manufacturer) and the workmanship warranty (installer), with the latter specifying at least 24 months including free rectification of any defect demonstrably caused by an installation or programming error.
Practical tip: Request answers to these seven questions in writing in writing by emailA company willing to put the programmer's name, service response times and warranty terms in an email is a significantly different kind of partner than one that handles everything verbally "at handover". Written documentation is also needed if something goes wrong and you wish to make a claim.
Warning signs: when to keep your hands off
Over the years in the trade, we have seen recurring patterns with problematic suppliers. If you encounter any of these signs, reconsider the offer or better yet, contact a different partner.
Fixed fee without a project plan
We'll send you a price, just tell us the size." That doesn't work. A quality Loxone quote always stems from electrical installation design documentation. You need to know exactly how many lights, how many shading circuits, how many heating circuits, and how many distribution board positions. Without this, the price lacks a basis and typically turns out to be an "underestimate", which increases by 30-50 % during construction.
The company does not state the price of the modules.
The official Loxone price list is in euros and is relatively public. When a company refuses to break down the price of a specific Tree module or Miniserver and instead lumps everything into a flat fee, it often adds a markup far higher than the industry standard (10-25 %) to the purchase price. This may not be dishonest, but you cannot assess it. A transparent offer lists the price for each module, allowing you to compare it with the official price list.
No references or questionable references
An Instagram account with beautiful photos of minimalist interiors is not a reference. A reference consists of the client's name, the project address (at least the street), the year of completion, and a telephone contact with their consent. If a company has a website with five photos "from our projects" and provides no further information, they have probably been installing Loxone systems for only one year, and the photos are either stock images or from a subcontractor.
Refuses to provide access credentials for your control system
The miniserver has an admin password, user passwords, and a Loxone Cloud account. Upon handover, everything must belong to you. "Your Loxone Cloud is linked to our company account; transfer is not handled" is classic vendor lock-in, from which it is difficult to escape if you wish to change your service partner.
Very low price compared to competitors
When you have three offers in the range of 550-620 thousand Kč and one for 380 thousand, this fourth offer is almost always either incomplete (missing modules, programming, or service), relies on low-end hardware (Air instead of Tree where it should not be used), or the company has critically underestimated labour hours and will later charge them as "variations" during construction. Loxone prices fall within a relatively narrow band; a deviation of more than 20% below this range is a red flag.
Beware of the claim: "We do it cheaper because we buy directly in Austria. Official Loxone distribution in the Czech Republic is handled through certified partners who have access to the Czech price list. The grey market route via Austria exists, but it means you do not receive a proper invoice or a Czech warranty for the modules: the manufacturer's service support may then refuse to assist you.
Checklist for evaluating a specific offer
Once you have one or more offers on the table, run them through the following checklist. An offer that does not meet at least 8 out of 10 points is not ready for signature:
- Itemised hardware breakdown with model, quantity and price per unit (Miniserver, Tree/Air modules, controllers, power supplies).
- Scope of cabling in metres or by cable type (CAT.6A Tree, power cables) at a price per metre.
- Hourly labour rate and the estimated number of hours: separately for electrical work and separately for programming.
- Implementation date with commencement, milestones (distribution board installation, Miniserver activation, handover) and reserve.
- Programming specification - number of scenes, types of integration (photovoltaics, heat pump, alarm), control via app/Touch.
- Electrical inspection included in the price: otherwise you will have to pay for it separately (5-12 thousand Kč).
- Repair guarantee with a workmanship warranty (minimum 24 months) and response time for defects.
- Service contract as an option: the flat rate price, what it covers, and how it is applied.
- Approaches - Upon handover, administration of the Miniserver account and Loxone Cloud transfers to your management.
- Payment terms - never 100% in advance; typically a 30% deposit, 60% after hardware delivery, and 10% upon handover.
Compare offers point by point, not just the total amount. A cheaper offer missing four out of ten points will cost 15-25 % more during implementation because the missing items are billed as extra work. A quality comparison requires all bidders to receive identical tender documentation, electrical installation project, circuit specifications, and floor plans showing lighting and shading.
Conclusion: partnership level is a starting point, not a goal
Loxone Silver, Gold and Platinum are useful indicators of a company's experience, but the true quality of a project is determined by three things: the specific technician doing the programming, the thoroughness of the documentation, and the partner's willingness to hand over full control of the system to you. You can verify these points with just seven questions and by carefully reading the quotation.
If you are selecting a Loxone partner for an apartment or house in Prague, we recommend obtaining at least three comparable quotations based on the same tender documentation, obtain written answers to seven questions, and before signing the contract, call or meet with the finalist to discuss the specific project. The time invested in selection will pay off within three years when you are truly enjoying your smart home, or, at worst, having it serviced.
